Ground Chicken Pizza Crust

September 4, 2026 by kadr Leave a Comment

Ground Chicken Pizza Crust is one of those recipes that changed how I think about homemade pizza. Instead of starting with flour and yeast, you use seasoned ground chicken to make the base, then add your favorite sauce and toppings.

The first time I made it, I was curious whether the chicken would actually hold together like a pizza crust. It does, as long as you press it into a thin, even layer and bake it properly before adding the toppings.

I keep the seasoning simple because the crust needs to work with whatever you put on top. A little garlic, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper give the chicken enough flavor without overpowering the pizza sauce and cheese.

The finished crust is savory, firm around the edges, and sturdy enough to pick up a slice. It is also a useful way to turn a few basic ingredients into something that feels completely different from a regular chicken dinner.

Why You Will Love This Recipe

Ground Chicken Pizza Crust gives you a savory chicken-based pizza base that is simple to prepare and easy to customize. You don’t need to make traditional pizza dough or wait for yeast to rise.

The most important part is getting the chicken mixture spread thinly and evenly. A thinner crust cooks more evenly and gives you a firmer base for your toppings.

You can keep the toppings classic with pizza sauce and mozzarella, or add mushrooms, peppers, onions, turkey pepperoni, or whatever you normally enjoy on pizza. The crust is mild enough to work with plenty of combinations.

Ingredients for Ground Chicken Pizza Crust

For the Chicken Crust

  • 1 pound ground chicken, preferably lean but not overly dry.
  • 1 egg, to help bind the chicken mixture.
  • 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella cheese, which helps hold the crust together.
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning, for simple pizza-style flavor.
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder, for extra savory flavor.
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste.
  • Cooking spray or a little olive oil, for the pan.

For the Pizza Topping

  • 1/2 cup pizza sauce, spread over the baked crust.
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese, for the cheesy topping.
  • 1/2 cup sliced pepperoni, optional.
  • Any extra pizza toppings you enjoy, such as mushrooms, peppers, or onions.

How to Make Ground Chicken Pizza Crust

  • Preheat the oven to 400°F and prepare the pan. Line a large baking sheet or pizza pan with parchment paper and lightly spray it with cooking spray. The parchment makes the chicken crust much easier to remove after baking.
  • Mix the chicken crust ingredients. Add the ground chicken, egg, shredded mozzarella, Italian seasoning, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper to a large bowl. Mix everything gently with your hands or a spoon until the ingredients are evenly distributed, but avoid overmixing because that can make the crust dense.
  • Shape the chicken into a crust. Place the mixture onto the prepared baking sheet and press it into a thin round or rectangular shape, depending on the pan you’re using. Aim for an even thickness of about 1/4 inch, and make the edges slightly thicker so they do not dry out too quickly.
  • Smooth and check the thickness. Run your hands or the back of a spoon over the surface to make sure there are no very thick spots. An even crust is important because thinner areas can dry out while thicker areas are still cooking.
  • Bake the chicken crust before adding toppings. Place the pan in the oven and bake for about 20–25 minutes, or until the chicken is fully cooked and the crust feels firm. The edges should have some light browning, and there should be no raw-looking chicken in the center.
  • Drain any excess moisture. Carefully remove the pan from the oven and, if there is liquid released from the chicken, gently drain it away. You can also blot the surface lightly with paper towels if needed because removing excess moisture helps the crust become firmer.
  • Add the pizza sauce. Spread the pizza sauce over the cooked chicken crust, leaving a small border around the edges. Don’t use too much sauce because a heavy layer can make the crust softer.
  • Add cheese and toppings. Sprinkle the mozzarella evenly over the sauce, then add pepperoni or your other favorite toppings. Keep the toppings reasonably light so the crust stays sturdy underneath.
  • Bake the topped pizza. Return the pizza to the oven and bake for another 8–10 minutes, or until the mozzarella is completely melted and bubbling. If you want a more browned cheese topping, switch the oven to broil for the final 1–2 minutes and watch it closely.
  • Let the pizza rest before slicing. Remove the pizza from the oven and let it rest for about 5 minutes. This short rest gives the chicken crust time to firm up, making it easier to cut and lift without falling apart.
  • Slice and serve. Use a sharp pizza cutter or knife to cut the crust into slices. Serve it while warm, when the cheese is still melted and the edges have their best texture.

What to Serve Ground Chicken Pizza Crust

Ground Chicken Pizza Crust is filling enough to serve as the main dish, so I usually pair it with something fresh. A simple green salad with lettuce, cucumber, tomatoes, and a light dressing makes an easy side.

Roasted vegetables such as broccoli, zucchini, or bell peppers also work well. If you’re making several different pizzas, a small bowl of salad or fresh vegetables can help balance out the cheesy toppings.

For a casual dinner, you can also serve it with a little extra pizza sauce or a simple dipping sauce on the side. I like keeping the sides uncomplicated because the pizza already has plenty of flavor.

How to Store and Reheat Ground Chicken Pizza Crust

Store leftover Ground Chicken Pizza Crust in an airtight container and refrigerate it for up to 3–4 days. If you’re stacking slices, place parchment paper between them to keep the cheese from sticking.

For the best texture, reheat the slices in a 375°F oven or air fryer until the crust is hot and the cheese has melted again. The microwave works when you’re in a hurry, but it can make the chicken crust softer.

If the crust seems a little moist after refrigeration, reheating it uncovered helps some of that moisture cook away. Once the edges are hot and firm again, the slices are ready to serve.
