Ground Chicken Patties are one of my favorite ways to turn ground chicken into something you can use for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. They cook quickly in a skillet, and you only need a few basic ingredients to give them plenty of flavor.

I usually make these when I have ground chicken in the refrigerator but don’t want to make another bowl of pasta or casserole. Shaping the mixture into patties makes the chicken feel more like a complete meal, and you can serve them in so many different ways.
The key is keeping the patties moist while they cook. A little egg and breadcrumbs help hold everything together, while garlic and simple seasonings give the chicken a savory taste without making the recipe complicated.
Once they are golden on the outside and cooked through, you can serve them with vegetables, rice, potatoes, or even put one inside a bun. That flexibility is what makes this recipe useful in my kitchen.
Why You Will Love This Recipe
Ground Chicken Patties are quick, simple, and easy to customize. You mix everything in one bowl, shape the chicken into patties, and cook them in a skillet until golden and fully cooked.
The ingredients are basic enough that you may already have most of them at home. You can also change the seasoning depending on what you’re serving alongside the patties.
I like making a small batch for dinner and saving the leftovers for lunch. They reheat well and can be added to sandwiches, salads, or wraps when you need something quick.
Ingredients for Ground Chicken Patties

For the Chicken Patties
- 1 pound ground chicken, which makes about 6 small patties.
- 1 egg, to help hold the patties together.
- 1/3 cup breadcrumbs, for structure and a better texture.
- 1/4 cup finely chopped onion, for flavor and moisture.
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder, for simple savory flavor.
- 1/2 teaspoon Italian seasoning, for a little extra seasoning.
- Salt and black pepper, to taste.
- 1 tablespoon olive oil, for cooking.
How to Make Ground Chicken Patties
- Prepare the chicken mixture. Add the ground chicken, egg, breadcrumbs, chopped onion, garlic powder, Italian seasoning, salt, and black pepper to a large bowl. Mix gently with your hands or a spoon until everything is evenly combined, being careful not to overmix because this can make the patties tough.
- Let the mixture rest briefly. Leave the mixture in the bowl for about 5 minutes so the breadcrumbs can absorb some of the moisture. This makes the mixture easier to shape and helps the patties hold together during cooking.
- Shape the patties. Divide the chicken mixture into about 6 equal portions and shape each one into a round patty about 1/2 inch thick. Press the centers gently with your fingers so the patties stay relatively flat while cooking.
- Heat the skillet. Place a large skillet over medium heat and add the olive oil. Let the oil warm for a minute or two until it is hot enough that a small piece of the chicken mixture sizzles when it touches the pan.
- Cook the patties on the first side. Carefully place the patties in the hot skillet, leaving a little space between them so they brown instead of steaming. Cook for about 4–5 minutes without moving them too much, allowing the bottom to develop a golden-brown crust.
- Flip and continue cooking. Use a spatula to carefully turn each patty over, then cook the other side for another 4–5 minutes. Keep the heat around medium so the outside does not brown too quickly while the center is still raw.
- Check that the chicken is fully cooked. The patties should be firm and lightly browned on both sides, with no raw chicken visible in the center. If you have a food thermometer, check the thickest part and make sure it reaches 165°F.
- Lower the heat if needed. If the patties are browning faster than they are cooking through, reduce the heat to medium-low and give them another few minutes in the skillet. This helps the center finish cooking without burning the outside.
- Let the patties rest. Transfer the cooked patties to a plate and let them rest for about 3–5 minutes before serving. This gives the juices a moment to settle and helps keep the patties moist.
- Serve while warm. Serve the patties on their own or with your favorite sides. You can also place them in a bun or wrap with lettuce, tomato, and a simple sauce for an easy sandwich.
What to Serve Ground Chicken Patties

Ground Chicken Patties work with just about any simple side. Roasted potatoes are one of my go-to choices because they add a crispy texture and make the meal feel more substantial.
For something lighter, serve the patties with steamed broccoli, green beans, roasted vegetables, or a fresh salad. Rice or quinoa also works well if you want a simple grain on the plate.
You can also turn the patties into sandwiches. Add lettuce, tomato, sliced onion, and a little mayonnaise or your favorite sauce to a toasted bun. For me, that is one of the easiest ways to use leftovers.
How to Store and Reheat Ground Chicken Patties
Store leftover Ground Chicken Patties in an airtight container and refrigerate them for up to 3–4 days. Let them cool before storing, and keep them covered so they don’t dry out.
For the best texture, reheat the patties in a skillet over medium-low heat with a small splash of water and a lid. Heat them for a few minutes on each side until warmed through. You can also use an air fryer at 350°F for several minutes to bring back some of the browned edges.
The microwave is fine when you need something fast, but use short intervals so the chicken does not become dry. Once heated through, the patties are ready to serve in a sandwich, with a side dish, or over a fresh salad.
