Ground Chicken Egg Roll Bowl

September 4, 2026 by kadr Leave a Comment

Ground Chicken Egg Roll Bowl takes everything I enjoy about an egg roll and puts it into a quick skillet meal. You get seasoned ground chicken, tender cabbage, carrots, and a little garlic and ginger without having to deal with wrappers or deep frying.

I first started making bowls like this when I wanted something that felt like takeout but was much easier to throw together at home. The vegetables cook right alongside the chicken, which means you only need one skillet.

The cabbage softens just enough while keeping a little bite, and the ground chicken soaks up all the savory seasoning. A drizzle of sauce over the top makes the whole bowl come together.

I usually serve it as it is, but rice is an easy addition when I want a heartier meal. You can also add green onions, sesame seeds, or a little hot sauce depending on what you have in the kitchen.

Why You Will Love This Recipe

Ground Chicken Egg Roll Bowl is quick, filling, and packed with simple flavors. It gives you the familiar combination of chicken, cabbage, carrots, garlic, ginger, and soy sauce in a much easier format than traditional egg rolls.

The recipe is also flexible. You can add more vegetables, adjust the soy sauce, or make it spicy with a little sriracha.

Another thing I like is how quickly everything cooks. Once the chicken is browned, the vegetables only need a few minutes in the skillet, making this a great option for a busy evening.

Ingredients for Ground Chicken Egg Roll Bowl

For the Chicken and Vegetables

  • 1 pound ground chicken, for the main protein.
  • 3 cups shredded cabbage, for the classic egg roll texture.
  • 1 small carrot, grated or cut into thin strips.
  • 1/2 small onion, thinly sliced.
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced.
  • 1 teaspoon fresh grated ginger, for warmth and flavor.
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil, for cooking.

For the Sauce and Toppings

  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce, for savory flavor.
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil, for a toasted finish.
  • 1 teaspoon rice vinegar, to brighten the sauce.
  • 1 teaspoon honey, optional for a touch of sweetness.
  • Green onions or sesame seeds, optional.
  • Sriracha or red pepper flakes, optional for heat.

How to Make Ground Chicken Egg Roll Bowl

  • Prepare the vegetables. Shred the cabbage, grate the carrot, and slice the onion into thin pieces. Mince the garlic and grate the ginger so everything is ready before you start cooking, since the vegetables will cook quickly once they hit the skillet.
  • Mix the sauce. In a small bowl, stir together the soy sauce, sesame oil, rice vinegar, and honey if you’re using it. Set the mixture aside so you can add it to the skillet once the chicken and vegetables are cooked.
  • Cook the ground chicken. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat and add the olive oil. Add the ground chicken and break it apart with a wooden spoon. Cook for about 5–7 minutes, stirring regularly, until the chicken is browned and no longer pink.
  • Add the onion, garlic, and ginger. Stir the sliced onion into the cooked chicken and let it cook for about 2 minutes until it starts to soften. Add the garlic and ginger and cook for another 30–60 seconds, stirring constantly so they become fragrant without burning.
  • Add the cabbage and carrot. Add the shredded cabbage and carrot to the skillet. It may look like a lot at first, but the cabbage will shrink considerably as it cooks. Stir everything together so the vegetables are evenly mixed with the chicken.
  • Cook until the vegetables are tender. Continue cooking for about 5–7 minutes, stirring every minute or so. The cabbage should soften but still have a little bite, while the carrots should become tender enough to mix easily with the chicken.
  • Add the sauce. Pour the prepared sauce over the chicken and vegetables and stir thoroughly. Cook for another 2–3 minutes so the sauce coats everything and the flavors have time to blend together.
  • Check the chicken. Make sure the ground chicken has reached 165°F before serving. If you notice extra liquid in the skillet, continue cooking uncovered for another minute or two so some of it can evaporate.
  • Adjust the flavor. Taste the mixture and add a little more soy sauce if you want it saltier, or a splash of rice vinegar if you want more brightness. For some heat, stir in sriracha or a pinch of red pepper flakes.
  • Finish with toppings. Remove the skillet from the heat and sprinkle the bowl with sliced green onions or sesame seeds. You can also add a drizzle of sriracha for a little extra spice.
  • Serve warm. Spoon the chicken and vegetable mixture into bowls and serve immediately. You can enjoy it on its own or place it over cooked rice if you want a more substantial meal.

What to Serve Ground Chicken Egg Roll Bowl

Ground Chicken Egg Roll Bowl is satisfying on its own, but steamed white rice or brown rice is an easy side when you want to stretch the meal. The rice also soaks up the savory sauce from the chicken and vegetables.

For something lighter, serve the bowl with sliced cucumber, steamed broccoli, or edamame. I also like adding a few fresh green onions and sesame seeds right before eating because they give the soft vegetables a little extra freshness and crunch.

If you enjoy spicy food, keep some sriracha or chili crisp on the table. A small amount goes a long way and works especially well with the ginger, garlic, and sesame flavors in the bowl.

How to Store and Reheat Ground Chicken Egg Roll Bowl

Store leftover Ground Chicken Egg Roll Bowl in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3–4 days. Let the mixture cool slightly before covering it and placing it in the refrigerator.

To reheat, place a portion in a skillet over medium heat and cook for several minutes, stirring occasionally, until it is heated through. You can also microwave it in short intervals, stirring between each one.

If the vegetables seem a little dry after refrigeration, add a small splash of water or soy sauce while reheating. Serve the warmed mixture over fresh rice and finish with green onions, sesame seeds, or your favorite spicy sauce.
