Crockpot Buffalo Chicken Dip

September 5, 2026 by kadr Leave a Comment

Crockpot Buffalo Chicken Dip is the recipe I pull out when I need something warm, creamy, and easy to share. Once everything goes into the slow cooker, there is very little work left to do.

The combination of shredded chicken, cream cheese, buffalo sauce, ranch, and cheese makes a dip that is rich, tangy, and just spicy enough. I like serving it straight from the crockpot because it stays warm while everyone helps themselves.

You can use cooked chicken from the refrigerator or leftover rotisserie chicken, which makes this especially convenient. I often shred the chicken ahead of time so I can get the dip started in just a few minutes.

Serve it with crunchy chips, celery, carrots, or toasted bread. It is an easy appetizer for game day, parties, or those evenings when you want something casual to snack on.

Why You Will Love This Recipe

The biggest reason I make this dip is how little effort it takes. You simply add the ingredients to the crockpot, let them warm together, and stir until everything is smooth and creamy.

The buffalo sauce gives the dip its signature tangy heat, while cream cheese makes it rich and creamy. Ranch adds another layer of flavor, and melted cheddar brings everything together.

You can also make it as mild or spicy as you like. Use less buffalo sauce for a gentler flavor, or add a little extra if your crowd likes more heat.

Ingredients for Crockpot Buffalo Chicken Dip

For the Dip

  • 2 cups cooked shredded chicken – Rotisserie chicken or leftover cooked chicken works perfectly.
  • 8 ounces cream cheese – Let it soften first so it melts more easily in the crockpot.
  • 1/2 cup buffalo sauce – Adjust the amount depending on how spicy you want the dip.
  • 1/2 cup ranch dressing – Adds a creamy, tangy flavor.
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese – Melts into the dip and makes it extra cheesy.
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder – Adds a little extra savory flavor.

For Topping

  • 2 tablespoons sliced green onions – Adds freshness and color.
  • 2 tablespoons extra shredded cheddar cheese – Optional for a cheesy finish.

For Serving

  • Celery and carrot sticks – Their crunch works really well with the creamy dip.
  • Tortilla chips, crackers, or toasted bread – Use whatever you like for scooping.

How to Make Crockpot Buffalo Chicken Dip

  • Prepare the chicken: If your chicken is not already cooked, cook it completely and shred it into small pieces. If you are using rotisserie or leftover chicken, remove any bones and skin, then shred the meat into bite-sized pieces so it mixes easily into the dip.
  • Soften the cream cheese: Let the cream cheese sit at room temperature for about 20 to 30 minutes before starting if possible. Softer cream cheese melts much more easily and helps the dip become smooth without requiring a lot of stirring.
  • Add everything to the crockpot: Place the shredded chicken, softened cream cheese, buffalo sauce, ranch dressing, shredded cheddar cheese, and garlic powder into the slow cooker. Spread the ingredients out slightly so the cream cheese is not sitting in one large block.
  • Cook the dip: Cover the crockpot and cook on LOW for about 2 to 3 hours, stirring every 30 to 45 minutes when you can. The cream cheese and cheddar should melt gradually, and the chicken should become completely coated in the creamy buffalo mixture.
  • Stir until creamy: Once the cheese has melted, stir the dip thoroughly from the bottom and sides of the crockpot. Keep stirring until the chicken and sauce are evenly combined and the dip looks smooth and creamy rather than separated.
  • Adjust the flavor: Taste a small spoonful once everything is combined. If you want more heat, stir in another tablespoon or two of buffalo sauce. If you want it creamier, you can add a little more ranch dressing and stir until incorporated.
  • Keep it warm: Once the dip is hot and fully combined, switch the crockpot to the WARM setting for serving. Stir it occasionally while it sits because the cheese can thicken as it stays warm.
  • Finish and serve: Sprinkle the top with green onions and a little extra cheddar if you like. Serve the dip while it is warm with tortilla chips, crackers, celery, carrots, or toasted bread for dipping.

What to Serve Crockpot Buffalo Chicken Dip

I usually put out tortilla chips and celery sticks because you get a nice mix of crunchy and creamy textures. Carrot sticks are another easy choice and their natural sweetness works well with the spicy buffalo flavor.

Crackers, toasted baguette slices, pita chips, and pretzels are also great for scooping. If you are serving a larger crowd, put several options around the crockpot so everyone can grab what they like.

For a party spread, you can serve the dip alongside wings, sliders, potato wedges, or a simple vegetable platter. Since the dip is rich and creamy, I like pairing it with a few fresh or crunchy foods to balance the table.

How to Store and Reheat Crockpot Buffalo Chicken Dip

Store leftover buffalo chicken dip in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 to 4 days. Let the dip cool slightly before transferring it to the container, and do not leave it sitting at room temperature for more than about 2 hours.

To reheat, place the dip back into the crockpot on LOW and stir occasionally until it is hot and creamy again. You can also reheat smaller portions in the microwave, stirring every 30 seconds or so until warmed through.

If the dip becomes thick after refrigeration, stir in a small splash of ranch dressing or buffalo sauce while reheating. This helps bring back the smooth, creamy texture without changing the flavor too much.
