Ingredients

  • 2 boneless skinless chicken breasts
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • ½ teaspoon ground cumin
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • ½ cup barbecue sauce
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar optional, for extra caramelization
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley for garnish

Method

  1. Preheat the air fryer to 380°F (193°C) for 3 to 5 minutes.
  2. Pat the chicken breasts dry with paper towels. If they are thick, pound them to an even thickness.
  3. In a small bowl, mix the smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, chili powder, cumin, salt, and black pepper.
  4. Brush the chicken breasts with olive oil, then coat both sides evenly with the seasoning mixture.
  5. Place the chicken in the air fryer basket in a single layer.
  6. Air fry for 10 minutes, then flip the chicken.
  7. In a small bowl, stir together the barbecue sauce, brown sugar (if using), and Worcestershire sauce.
  8. Brush the tops of the chicken breasts generously with the BBQ sauce mixture.
  9. Air fry for another 6 minutes, then flip the chicken and brush the other side with more BBQ sauce.
  10. Cook for an additional 2 to 4 minutes, or until the chicken reaches an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C) and the sauce is caramelized.
  11. Let the chicken rest for 5 minutes, garnish with fresh parsley, and serve.

Notes

  • Use your favorite smoky or honey BBQ sauce for the best flavor.
  • Avoid adding the BBQ sauce too early, as the sugars can burn during cooking.
  • For extra smoky flavor, add a pinch of chipotle powder to the seasoning blend.
  • Serve with coleslaw, baked beans, corn on the cob, roasted potatoes, or mac and cheese.
