Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and shape into burger patties about ½ inch thick.
Heat the olive oil in a large skillet or grill pan over medium heat.
Cook the burgers for 5 to 6 minutes per side, or until golden brown and the internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C).
If using cheese, place a slice on each burger during the last minute of cooking.
Lightly toast the hamburger buns if desired.
